Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)

A policy approach that holds companies accountable for managing their environmental impact of their products throughout their lifecycle- even after the products are sold and used. The idea behind this is to hold companies responsible for properly managing their products when they reach the end of their life. Some EPR programs have already been implemented throughout the EU while others are still in the process of developing their policies. Generally companies need to comply with EPR regulations by establishing systems for collection, recycling, and proper disposal. The implementation of this policy will encourage the development of more sustainable product designs.
