Commercial use

What do I say when a customer asks for the footprint of a product?

Give a product-specific answer instead of a generic sustainability statement. Use the product footprint, explain the scope and share the underlying proof where needed.

Full answer

Customer questions about product footprints are becoming more specific. A broad answer such as “this product is sustainable” is usually not enough anymore. Buyers often want to know the CO2e, material impact, comparison basis or data behind the claim.

A stronger answer combines a clear number, a short explanation of the method and a way to share supporting evidence. This helps sales teams respond quickly without overpromising.

  • State the footprint or impact result clearly
  • Explain what the result is based on
  • Avoid broad claims that cannot be substantiated
  • Share the supporting report, comparison or product data when needed

Example

A customer asks for CO2e data for a specific product before approving a supplier shortlist.
