What is IDEMAT?

IDEMAT is a secondary environmental database used by Pickler to support product footprint calculations with background data for materials, energy, transport and processes.

Full answer

IDEMAT provides lifecycle inventory data that can be used as background data in product footprint calculations. This is important because companies rarely have primary environmental data for every upstream material, process, energy source or transport step.

Pickler uses IDEMAT where relevant to connect product inputs to environmental impact data. This helps make product footprint calculations more scalable and comparable, while still allowing better primary data to improve quality where available.

Example

If a product contains paper, plastics, metals or textile-related materials, those structured material inputs can be mapped to suitable background data where applicable.

How Pickler helps

Pickler uses IDEMAT as part of its calculation setup to make product-level impact data practical across portfolios without requiring every upstream dataset from suppliers.
